“I Delivered My Son 5 Years Ago, and Now I’m Considering a DNA Test – Here’s Why”

Sometimes, parents want to check if their kids are really theirs by doing a DNA test. It can lead to a lot of family problems. Usually, it’s dads who ask for these tests, but sometimes moms do too. That’s what happened to our reader. She’s a mom of three and she’s sure she needs to test her son’s DNA. She wrote to us to share her story.

An anonymous woman wrote a letter to our editorial.

A 35-year-old woman, who wants to stay unnamed, shared her unusual story with us. She began her letter by saying, “Hey, I know your website is a safe place for people to talk about their problems. I’ve commented on lots of posts here, giving advice and sharing my thoughts. Now, I need advice myself, but I can’t talk to my family about it.”

She continued, “I’ve been married happily for over 10 years and we have 3 kids. Five years ago, we were thrilled to find out I was pregnant again. We love having kids, so we were excited for our new addition.”

The woman’s pregnancy journey was quite tough.

The woman continued her story, saying, “My pregnancy was really risky, and the doctors were worried that I might lose the baby or have health problems myself. It was a stressful time, but my husband supported me a lot, and I tried to stay positive.”

Then, she talked about the day her baby was born. “The delivery was difficult because of my risky pregnancy. When my son was born, there were some complications, so they took him away before I could even hold him. It felt strange, and I started to have doubts.”

The woman shared her concerns about her baby.

Our main character shared, “When they finally brought our baby boy to us, I had a strange thought: ‘Is this really our child?’ I felt guilty for thinking that, but I couldn’t shake it off. He was chubby, cute, and cuddly, but he didn’t look like our other kids or anyone in our family.”

She explained, “Our other kids were fair-skinned and slim, but he was chubby and had darker skin. It just didn’t add up. Even as he grew older, he didn’t look like any of us.

The woman has some thoughts about her son and she just can’t let them go.

The woman explained, “My other kids may not look identical, but they share some common features. However, my youngest son doesn’t seem to have any resemblance to anyone in our family, not in looks or personality. Recently, he was diagnosed with a serious illness that no one else in the family has.”

She continued, “Now I can’t help but wonder if he might not be my biological child. I’m considering getting a DNA test to check for any health risks linked to his real family. But I’m not sure what I’ll do if it turns out he’s not mine. Should I keep it a secret, or should I tell him and our family? Should I take legal action against the hospital?”
