How to Remove a Tick

Removing a tick carefully is important to prevent infection or leaving parts of the tick
behind.

Follow these steps:

1. Use Fine-Tipped Tweezers: Grasp the tick as close to your skin as possible. Avoid
squeezing the body of the tick to prevent it from releasing harmful fluids into your
skin.

2. Pull the Tick Straight Out: With steady, even pressure, pull the tick out slowly and
straight. Don’t twist or jerk the tick as this can cause parts of it to break off and
remain in your skin.

3. Clean the Area: Once the tick is removed, clean the bite area and your hands with
soap and water, rubbing alcohol, or an iodine scrub.

4. Dispose of the Tick: Place the tick in alcohol, seal it in a plastic bag, or flush it
down the toilet. Never crush a tick with your fingers.

5. Monitor the Bite: Keep an eye on the area for any signs of rash or infection. If
symptoms of illness develop, consult a doctor.

This method ensures safe and effective tick removal.
