My Husband Went on a Last Date With His Ex a Week Before We Got Married to Make Sure I Was the One

A woman’s husband went on a date with his ex just before their wedding, causing emotional turmoil. She reflects on how this decision affected their relationship moving forward.

She shared her story.

His ex was always seen as “the one who got away” by the people around him. He broke up with her because he didn’t see a future with her, but everyone was surprised since she was beautiful and well-liked.

Then I came into the picture, and it became clear that his friends and family preferred her. I even heard people compare me to Camilla (but I’m happy with how I look, even if I don’t fit the typical tall, blonde, blue-eyed beauty standard like she does).

Still, my husband never gave me a reason to doubt him. He seemed confident in his choice and told me he loved me a few months into our relationship. I always felt secure with him and never thought I wasn’t enough.

He knew what people thought about his decision to leave his ex, but he acted like he didn’t care. He even told his mom that I was his choice and that if she wanted to stay in his life, she needed to accept that.

We got married three years ago, but I only just found out that he went on a date with his ex a few days before the wedding to be completely sure she wasn’t “the one who got away.” He wanted to make 100% sure.

His mom told me this when she came to visit our new baby. She then looked at our daughter and said she wondered what would have happened if he had changed his mind after that date and she was now visiting their baby instead. She said it with a sigh, but also like she found it amusing, if you know what I mean.

I haven’t spoken to my husband for a week. I hate giving the silent treatment, but I just can’t bring myself to talk to him. It’s not about punishing or controlling him—I just can’t face him right now.

People stood on her side.

  • “Your husband is a jerk, but your mother-in-law loathes you. To think she held onto this information until you were happy with a new baby, totally vulnerable, and then decided to drop this. That is calculated evil.

  • “I wouldn’t let her visit my baby anymore. She would be barred from my house too. If she’s going to go that low, I’ll go lower.

  • “I can’t imagine how you are feeling right now. It doesn’t matter how good you both are right now, the fact that he HAD to see his ex to make sure before marrying you!!! You are totally in your right to be upset.
