My MIL Made a Nasty Comment About My Mom on My Wedding Day, So I Got Revenge She’ll Never Forget

My mother-in-law made a mean comment about my mom on my wedding day, which upset me a lot. Here’s what happened: During the wedding, my MIL criticized my mom for not dressing up enough and hinted that she didn’t look nice.

My mom is usually quiet, so she didn’t say much back, just gave a half-hearted compliment about my MIL’s dress. My mom was wearing our traditional cultural attire, and everyone else thought she looked beautiful, including my partner and me.

I only found out about this the day after the wedding, and I was furious. I told my husband, and he was also upset and wanted to confront his mother about it. But I decided against it.

You see, his mother is difficult and often behaves unreasonably. She’s very focused on her looks and can be quite unpleasant. Knowing this, I wanted to do something to stand up for my mom.

So, I messaged our wedding photographer with a request. I asked them to include every unflattering photo of my MIL in our wedding photos and to remove any good ones. The photographer had mentioned before that they might touch up photos to make people look better, so I made sure they didn’t do any of that for my MIL.

I didn’t know what to expect, but let me tell you, the photographer really came through. There were pictures of my MIL yelling at kids, another with food stuck in her teeth, and more. I have to admit, it made me chuckle a bit.

Well, now she’s seen the photos and she’s upset. I feel a bit sorry for her because everyone can see them. She asked me to remove some, but I explained it would take a few days to talk to the photographer about it.

My partner feels caught in the middle and guilty. He thinks I shouldn’t have done this and should have let him talk to his mom instead. He went to my mom’s house to talk to her and apologize for what happened. I still believe I did the right thing. No one should upset my mom, especially on my wedding day.

Maybe I should have talked to my MIL directly to sort things out.

People stood on her side.

  • “You’re an absolute legend! Let’s face it, talking to MIL was going to achieve nothing; you’ve hit her where it hurts, which is much, much better. All you did was make sure that her inner ugliness was showing on the outside.
If you do get the photographer to change the album, make sure she puts just average, untouched photos of your MIL and really nice touch-up, but not really conspicuously so, ones of your mum.”

  • “You already tried to communicate with your MIL, your husband tried to communicate with her previously. Did she hear you? No.
Maybe it’s a bit childish, but it seems that she understands the humiliation. Now, with your husband, you can get to her home and explain to her that her feelings are exactly the kind of feelings people have when they are humiliated by her!”

  • “Your MIL never learned empathy, but I’m pretty sure she just learned consequences.”
