A 35-year-old woman couldn’t believe her husband’s parents visited to ask her to return after their painful breakup. Instead of her husband coming himself, his parents came. She was at a crossroads, needing to make a tough decision and reveal to his unsuspecting parents what kind of person their son was. She wrote us a heartfelt letter seeking advice in this difficult situation.
Things had gone wrong in their relationship a long time ago, but Anna didn’t give up on it.
Anna, 35, poured her heart out in her letter, sharing a story that deeply touched us. She sought opinions and advice from our readers because she felt guilty, even though she hadn’t done anything wrong except in the eyes of her husband’s unaware parents.
In her letter, she started by saying, “My husband, Nick, whom I’ve been married to for 10 years, has had a female ‘friend’ who always made my life difficult. She never respected boundaries. When Nick and I started dating, she told everyone I was only with him for his money. Nick earns a lot more than I do, but he never gave me any money. We split bills equally and bought groceries together. I took care of our 5-month-old baby’s needs and also supported my older child from a previous marriage.”
“For the past 8 years, this ‘friend’ has spread rumors and shown total disrespect. I confronted Nick about it, but he dismissed it as ‘petty women’s issues.’ He never wanted to set boundaries, so I had to confront this woman myself a few times.
Anna continued her story, saying, “Recently, that ‘friend’ started spreading rumors again. Nick and I bought a house together. She told everyone I didn’t contribute anything to our new home. I confronted her right away, yelling at her to stay out of our private life. She called Nick and complained about me, which upset him.”
“When Nick came home stressed and upset, I asked if he was okay, but he didn’t want to talk. Later that night, after the kids were in bed, I pushed him to talk, and he confessed he had a moment of weakness with this ‘friend’ and now she was pregnant. He said he didn’t want to lose his family.”
“I was shocked and hurt. I cried while Nick apologized, begging not to lose us. I didn’t say anything and went to my toddler’s room, locking the door.”
The breakup happened quickly and painfully.
“The next morning, I took time off work, took the kids, and went to my father’s house. I told my dad everything, and he was upset. Nick came home, didn’t find me, and blew up my phone, but I blocked him. Yesterday afternoon, his parents came to my dad’s house. They begged me to return home and end this ‘unnecessary disagreement.’ I was so stressed and shocked that I yelled at them, saying they raised a real monster. His mother turned pale.”
“His parents were shocked. They thought our relationship was just going through a rough patch. They believed their son treated me well and didn’t understand what more I could want.”
“They asked for an explanation. I paused and told them their son was a liar and cheater who made my life unbearable. I said he didn’t value his family, even when faced with a baby on the way. His mom was upset, and his dad left without a word but later called me promising to handle things.”
“I know my mother-in-law has heart issues and needs to be protected from bad news. My father-in-law will make Nick’s life hell once he knows everything. Since then, Nick has been calling from different numbers, blaming me for everything. He says I shouldn’t have told his parents about his affair because it could destroy their relationship.”
“I feel guilty. Maybe we could have divorced without involving his parents. But I couldn’t bear it anymore. I needed his parents to understand why I couldn’t go back to him. I’m torn. What would you do?”
