Mom wants daughter with rare birthmark to know she’s beautiful

We are all born unique and beautiful in our own way, and as a society, we’re getting better at accepting and celebrating our differences.

Nicole Lucas Hallson is raising her two children, Asher and Winry, while also aiming to show that we are perfect in our imperfections. Her daughter Winry, born with a rare birthmark called congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN), exemplifies this message.

Winry’s birthmark covers a quarter of her face, and when she was born in February 2021, Nicole was initially shocked, as her pregnancy had been normal and she didn’t expect a skin condition. While the doctors and nurses were positive, Nicole soon realized that the mark resembled a mole, leading to concern about its possible harm.

CMN can appear as light brown or black patches and vary in size. Nicole and her partner now proudly highlight Winry’s uniqueness, hoping to encourage others to embrace differences.

Though Winry’s birthmark may increase the risk of melanoma, Nicole is more concerned about potential bullying. They take steps to protect her skin and monitor her health, while also preparing for dermatology visits.

Winry, at 13 months, is a joyful, energetic little girl, full of laughter and personality. Nicole describes her as the happiest baby she’s ever seen, radiating joy and sass.

At Newsner, we believe differences should be celebrated, not mocked, and Winry is a special, beautiful soul. Please share this article to spread love and confidence for Winry and all children.
