Sometimes, even a strong marriage can fall apart quickly. A small accident can lead to a sudden and painful breakup. This story is about a woman who was happily married for 15 years and thought her marriage was unbreakable. But then, she accidentally overheard her husband talking to his best friend, and everything changed.
The Story:
A 35-year-old woman named Angela wrote to us about her painful experience. She now wishes she had noticed the warning signs in her husband’s behavior from the start. Angela wants her story to be a warning for others to trust their instincts and be more practical, even if they think their relationship is perfect.
Angela began her letter by saying, “Hi! I’m sharing my story, which might be sad for many people, but I’ve managed to handle my pain and become stronger and wiser through it all. I have a husband (soon to be ex), named Mark.
I deeply loved my husband and was sure he loved me too. We got married 15 years ago, and it felt like a dream. Recently, my whole world fell apart. On our 15th anniversary, my husband accidentally revealed a horrible secret he had been hiding from me for all these years. Since then, my life has felt like a nightmare.
Angela continues her story, saying, “Even though we had some tough financial times, we were happy together for 15 years. On our 15th wedding anniversary, I came home earlier than Mark expected. I got home 3 hours early because I brought him a special gift for our big day. We had agreed to celebrate quietly, just the two of us, so I was surprised to hear his best friend’s voice coming from our kitchen.
I thought Mark might have invited his friend to help with a surprise for me, but then I heard them talking about our relationship, and I was shocked. Mark’s friend congratulated him on his ‘successful marriage’ and said how lucky he was to be married to a rich woman who would take care of his financial needs. Mark replied, ‘Yes, I don’t have to worry about money, including support for Pamela.’”
Angela wrote, “Hearing Mark’s harsh words and the mention of ‘Pamela’ made me feel sick. I was stressed, frustrated, and wanted to cry right away. I lost control and coughed loudly, making it clear that I was there and had heard everything.”
Angela continued, “I confronted Mark and his friend about what I heard and forced them to tell the truth. It turned out Mark had been seeing another woman, Pamela, throughout our 15 years of marriage. He was in love with her and never really loved me. He asked me for money each month for his ‘private expenses’ and gave it to Pamela. He married me because my parents were wealthy, and then I started earning well myself. That was the only reason he stayed with me. Finding out the truth was devastating; it felt like my world had ended, and I could barely speak.”
“After two weeks, I made a big decision. I filed for divorce and planned my revenge on Mark for everything he had done. I knew he had a large amount of money saved in a safe in his room. I never asked about it, but I knew he saved about $700,000, which was equal to my annual income.”
“One day, I took all the money from the safe and donated it to charity. I wrote him a letter explaining that he had been lying and stealing from me for a long time. In the letter, I told him I donated his savings to children who had lost their parents. It felt important to me because I felt like an abandoned child who had been betrayed and left alone in pain and tears.
Now, I’m almost divorced, and I feel free and complete. I’m grateful for the lesson life taught me by bringing Mark into my life. I’m ready to be happy and am proud of my decision. I don’t regret my harsh but satisfying revenge on my dishonest husband.”
