The woman began her letter, saying, “I’m so desperate about my current family conflict that I can barely make any decisions on my own. I feel like my brain will explode soon, and things are so inappropriate and awkward that I feel like I’m in a bad dream and can’t wake up.

My husband Liam and I have been married for 4 years. This is my first marriage, but not for Liam. He was married before to a woman named Anna, and they divorced one year before Liam and I met.

We’ve been very happy, and our marriage is almost perfect. I feel that Liam loves me, and he’s happy with me. I know he’s not burdened by his past relationship, and I’m sure he’s faithful to me. But there’s an issue, and recently our family has been suffering because of Liam’s past relationship.

Paula continues her story, saying, “Liam’s ex, Anna, hadn’t been in our lives all these years. Until recently.

7 months ago, Anna called Liam, crying and screaming. She said her house burned down in a big fire and she had nowhere to live because of it. Luckily, she wasn’t home when the fire started, but the house was destroyed, and Anna was so upset that I cried too when I found out.

What made it worse was that Anna’s house was all she had left after her parents died. It was where she was born and raised, so being homeless wasn’t as bad as losing all her childhood memories.

I felt so sorry for her that I made a decision, a big mistake, which I now regret with all my heart. I told Liam we must help her. I insisted she live with us until her life got back to normal after this horrible accident. I didn’t feel awkward that Anna was Liam’s ex. I just wanted to help a woman who had nowhere to go and no one to support her in her toughest time.”

Anna moved in with Paula and Liam, and at first, things went smoothly.

Paula continues her story, saying, “Liam hesitated when I suggested we help Anna, but he finally agreed. So, Anna moved in with us. There was nothing in her behavior that made me think she was ungrateful or jealous. We were friendly, and I treated her well, like anyone in such a bad situation. She was warm and friendly in return, and her relationship with Liam was neutral, like they had never been married.

I was relaxed about everything, but one thing about Anna’s behavior frustrated me. She was very comfortable living in our house and, even after a few months, didn’t seem interested in finding her own place. By that time, she had enough money to rent an apartment, but she still preferred to live with us. We didn’t charge her rent and paid for her food, hygiene products, and other necessities. I didn’t tell Liam about my suspicions, but I told Anna I wanted her to do a paternity test once the baby is born so I could be sure she and Liam weren’t hiding anything from me. Anna boldly said she’ll never do this and told me that if I have doubts about my husband, then I’m paranoid and need medical help. I’m torn and don’t know what to do now. This woman still lives in our house, and next month she’s finally moving out.
