Finding the perfect Christmas gift for a loved one can be tricky. Most people appreciate the thought behind a gift, but I have a hard time pleasing my daughter-in-law (DIL). No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to find the right gift for her. After many failed attempts, I’ve had enough.
A Woman Shared Her Dilemma
I am so tired of this. My DIL is very picky about what comes into her home. Everything has to follow her rules: no companies she doesn’t support, no plastic, no bright colors, no small pieces, and no big toys because they take up too much space.
I’ve tried many times to get her something she will like. I’ve asked for lists, but she never gives me any. For my granddaughter’s birthday a few months ago, I thought a wooden train set would be perfect. But my DIL said it was too loud.
I tried getting her a nice knife set, but she didn’t like the company. I don’t even know what was wrong with the company. It was a decent set, not super high-end.
I reached my limit today. I got my granddaughter decorations for her Christmas tree in her room. We went shopping together, and she picked out her own lights and ornaments. I bought what she wanted, and we set it up.
When my DIL saw the tree, she was angry. She said there was too much plastic on the tree. They were ornaments! I wasn’t going to buy glass ones that could break. I told her I was done. I’m not getting any gifts for the family because she is impossible to please.
She also offered additional info in the comments.
- “I have talked to my son, he stands by his wife even if he does think some rules are overboard. I guess I could try to make some out of clay, but I am so over this. I am sick of jumping through 50 hoops to just do something nice for them, so I am done.”
- “I made her homemade cookies once, and I brought them over on a paper plate with plastic wrap on top. Plastic wrap is evil, so they couldn’t eat them.
- “My son stands by his wife to not cause issues. He gets mad whenever I try to speak to him about it. He gets annoyed when I begged him for a year to give me a list, so I can get something they want.
