I’m a 25-year-old woman who gave birth to my daughter two months ago. Despite my husband (28) telling me he trusts me completely and knows I would never cheat, I insisted on getting a paternity test for our daughter. The reason? She has green eyes, and neither my husband nor I have green eyes. None of my parents or his parents have green eyes either—no one in our families does. My husband thought it might be some unusual genetic thing, but I wanted the test to ease his worries.
He kept refusing because he believed in me, but his mother and other family members kept commenting on our daughter’s eyes. They even hinted that I might have cheated. Even my own family found it strange that our daughter had green eyes. My husband told me to ignore them because he knew I was faithful, but I couldn’t take their comments anymore, so I insisted on the test.
Finally, he agreed just to calm me down. It turns out our daughter is indeed his, but the test also revealed that my father-in-law isn’t biologically related to my husband. My in-laws have been married for many years, so the idea that my mother-in-law might have cheated on my father-in-law never crossed our minds.
