The groom whose bride was killed in a car crash on their wedding night will get almost $1 million in a settlement. The crash was allegedly caused by a drunk driver.
Aric Hutchinson will receive about $863,300 from Folly Beach bars, an insurance company, and a rental car company. He sued these businesses after Jamie Lee Komoroski, driving a rented car, crashed into the golf cart carrying him and his new bride, Samantha Miller, on April 28, 2023.
The golf cart was thrown 100 yards. Miller died on the spot in her wedding dress, while Hutchinson suffered a brain injury and multiple broken bones. Komoroski was reportedly driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone and had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit.
Hutchinson claimed in his lawsuit that Komoroski had been drinking heavily at several bars before the crash. Komoroski is out on bond and faces multiple charges, including felony DUI resulting in death and reckless homicide.
The total settlements amount to $1.3 million but will be less after legal fees. The case continues.
