When we get married, we think we know everything about our partner. Or at least the stuff that matters to us. Our main character thought she had a clear understanding of her very loving and caring husband of 15 years. But one day, she found something unexpected among his things that shattered her beliefs. An enigmatic discovery turned the woman’s life upside down.
A woman named Kathleen wrote to us to share her family’s story. She started by saying she’s scared of her husband, even though he’s not usually someone who scares people.
Kathleen is 37 and her husband is 40. They’ve been happily married for over 15 years. They have 2 kids, a big cozy house, and a Labrador dog. Their family seems perfect, but Kathleen’s view changed recently.
Two weeks ago, they moved into a new home. While unpacking, Kathleen found a box that belonged to her husband. Curious, she opened it and found old photos of herself from when she was 20. They showed her in college, at the gym, and with friends. It might seem innocent, but one detail scared her.
Kathleen wrote that she was mortified when she saw the photos.
Continuing her letter, the woman explains that finding the old photos made her feel extremely scared. She says, “All these photos were from when I was 20, but what really scared me was that I didn’t meet my husband until my 23rd birthday. We had never met before, not until my birthday party.”
Kathleen says the photos were from a time when she didn’t know her husband yet. They were taken in places she frequented, but they weren’t in her family photo album. She couldn’t remember anyone taking those photos.
All of this made Kathleen panic. She tried to make sense of it all, but couldn’t find an explanation.
Further findings put the woman in an even deeper shock.
As Kathleen kept digging through the box, she found more unsettling things. Her husband had a list of all the places she used to go, like shops, the gym, and beauty salons. He knew details about all of Kathleen’s friends and even the men she used to date years ago.
She also found her husband’s diary, which revealed that he planned their first meeting. He showed up at the same place where Kathleen celebrated her 23rd birthday because he knew she’d be there.
Suddenly, Kathleen realized why her husband always knew what she liked. She used to think they were soulmates, but now she saw him as someone who spied on her.
Surprisingly, Kathleen never felt like she was being controlled by him. Her husband always showed her love and care, so she never thought he was controlling. He was so loving and sweet that Kathleen felt incredibly lucky to be with him.
The woman now has an urge to run away from her creepy husband.
