A woman expected her mother-in-law’s first visit to be a happy occasion, but it turned out differently. After preparing a special meal, she overheard her mother-in-law and husband talking outside. Shocked by what she heard, she shared her story on social media to see if others had similar experiences.

She wrote:

“Me and my hubby have been together for 15 years. We both work full-time and share chores at home. I cook, and he cleans the dishes. My mother-in-law loves her son a lot, and she thinks no one is good enough for him.

We’ve never lived in the same city. When she visited our home for the first time, I cooked a fancy dinner with four courses and nice drinks to impress her. After dessert and coffee, my husband started washing the dishes while chatting with my MIL and me. I was really tired after working and cooking all day.

When my husband started washing the dishes, my MIL’s expression changed. She looked upset, mumbled something, and left the room. I thought she needed a moment, so I went to lie down. But I overheard my husband comforting her as she cried. She didn’t know I could hear them.

She cried about all the sacrifices she made for her son’s good life. She never thought she’d see him doing chores like washing dishes. She said I broke her heart by making him do housework. But my husband thought it was silly. He told her we had a great dinner and that crying over dishes was childish. He even made her laugh to stop her crying.

That first visit set the tone for our relationship. She doesn’t like me or my daughters, and she spends less and less time with her son. She even wants him to visit her so she can sort out her will, saying she’ll die soon. But my husband told her to spend her money and said he doesn’t need her will.
