There’s this woman I work with who has a really annoying habit. She uses a dating profile to get guys to take her out for expensive dinners at restaurants she wants to try, and then she ignores them. She brags about this a lot and doesn’t really want to date anyone, but she pretends to be interested to get free meals. I don’t like it because it’s not fair to mess with people’s feelings, but she sees it as a way to eat at fancy places without paying.
My friend Daniel also uses dating sites, but he’s looking for genuine connections. He matched with her recently and they talked about work, so he found out we work together. I warned him about her restaurant trick and suggested he should be careful. He decided to go on the date but asked for separate checks.
They went out last weekend, and on Monday, my colleague came into work upset. She had my friend take her to an expensive steakhouse, and she ended up paying for the meal herself. Now she’s mad at me because I told him about her trick, and it didn’t work out for her. Some other coworkers said I should have stayed out of it because it’s not my business.
